July 22-24: Act I, "The Missionary Man" was selected to screen at the Fright Night Film Festival in Louisville, KY so naturally Jaysen and the Brothers Vang represented and ran amok at the Fright Night Film Festival, Act I. It was during said run-amokery that El Diablo was lucky enough to spend some time with some of our favourite partners in cinematic crime, MutantVille Productions, who just so happened to have the necessary tools to successfully memorex the moment. Act I: The Missionary Man Accepted into the Cape Fear Independent Film Festival!
When there ain't much in this world that can scare you, and there ain't nothin left that can save you... one must ask themself a very simple question - what would Hot Pink Jesus do? Well, he certainly wouldn't take a six-month sin-soaked sabbatical like the inmates running the cinematic asylum at Mad Ones Films apparently did, however, have no fear true believers, for rather than rest on our libertine laurels we have been working like a bat out of hell (pre-Gary Busey fisticuffs/post "Robert Paulson & His Magic BitchTits" Meatloaf) on bringing the next act of The Gospel According to Booze, Bullets & Hot Pink Jesus to life!
Taking the usual filmmaking conventions of "linear continuity" and giving it a good and proper spanking, we are temporarily circumventing the natural order of things, and have already started pre-production on Act III of the HPJ Trilogy, "Have Faith, Will Travel." Principal filming will begin on May 20th and conclude on May 23rd (with the famously infamous "topless taco bar scene"... which may just give us enough time to prepare a teaser trailer for our appearance at the 2011 Con Carolinas (June 3-5)! That's right sinners & saints, your favourite inmates running the cinematic asylum will returning to Charlotte to for their usual charming convention chicanery! Not only did we run amok amok amok, making friends and influencing people all whilst spreading the Gospel of our hot pink friend, but we also had a sinfully stellar, or was that spectacularly secular screening, of 'The Missionary Man'!!! At the end of March we were fortunate enough to be able to host the First Annual "Often Awesome, Always Mad Fundraising Extravaganza" at The Garage. No you haven't blacked out, slipped through a crack in the space/time continuum, or woken up on a strange island after a plane crash - so don't freak out, you didn't miss out on the last six months. We've just been so busy planning, obsessively planning, recasting, re-rehearsing, and still more obsessive planning on production of "The Missionary Man," that Jaysen has neglected his web site maintaining duties (a negligence that will be swiftly taken out of his paycheck... as soon as he gets a paycheck).
Filming of "The Missionary Man" went fan-damn-tastic!!! We were lucky enough to shoot in some locations we've never used before, with some brilliant acting talent that we'd never had the chance to work with. Just found out that the 2nd Annual ConCarolinas Film Festival will serve as the world premiere of "The Decapitator," Mad Ones Films' newest short-film masterpiece. A clever cocktail of 80s slasher horror and razor-sharp wit, along with buckets of blood and a plethora of "head" jokes, the attendees of ConCarolinas will find out on Saturday, June 5th, that it's tails they win... heads they lose!

HPJ Trilogy, ACT I Shooting Begins!!! - 11.24.09
There's always been something lucky about Friday the 13th. Oh sure, not if you're a Templar Knight, or a half-naked/fully inebbriated co-ed camp counselor, or a fully naked/nicely baked camper couple going out for your coitus badges - no, those people seem to end up on the Mr. Pointy side of something deadly... but for many others it's a day of quirky celebration. Since quirky is HPJ's middle name (or rather it would be, if velvet hot pink messiahs with oracles in their bottom bits had middle names per se), Friday the 13th seemed like a perfect day to start shooting "The Missionary Man"!
After a temporary setback involving a location falling thru, the sheer clusterfuckery of the American housing market, and a magic bean, I rounded up Nhia, Jesse, and Mikey and we ran out to Brown Summit, NC to check out a potential location recommended by our new movie magic BFF, Ms. Rebecca Clark. The location was bloody perfect and to celebrate we hauled Rondo's ass back to Greensboro and junked up on tacos and tasty goodness - except for Nhia who wanted to play hooky but couldn't... poor Money (several tacos were poured out for our missing esé).

Groovy greetings and sinfully salacious salutations to all you loquacious, lustlorn Lotharios and jasmine-scented Jezebels who waft waves of aromatic allure in your wake, Hippo's Max Diablo (ye Great Devil) not only has an altered ego, he has an alter-ego by name of Jaysen Buterin. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, the 33-year-old Buterin came to Greensboro almost nine years ago.
And the romantic cherry on this bit of biographical cake is that he followed a girl to come here. Most people wince, expecting a heartbroken postscript when he shares this information with them, but instead he smiles and continues, "It all worked out well. We've been happily married for five years now." Buterin pays the bills with a day job at UNCG as a graphic artist and web designer, yet in his long-haired, goateed, nose-ringed, tattooed and black fingernail polished persona as Max Diablo, he is drummer for the Malamondos. And with Jennie Prince and J. Evan Wade, Buterin is also a co-founder and creative director of the independent film production company Mad Ones Films.

This feature-length short film trilogy, "The Gospel According to Booze, Bullets, & Hot Pink Jesus" will be a life and death love story of revenge, lust, and faith. With this project Jaysen Buterin has formulated an ambitious vision that will consist of three different 20-25-minute tales that illustrate the meandering and madcap adventures of everyone's favourite Hot Pink Deity. Part Twilight Zone, part Tarantino, and all MAD ONES FILMS, the three tales that comprise this cinematic second coming blend dark comedy with even darker action - all with a supernatural twist and razor-sharp wit.
But we can't do it without you!!!
